Then she continued her study in the University of Illinois Urbana Champaign, United States and earned Master of Science of Policy Economics (1990). In 1992, she earned Ph.D of Economics.. This specialist of Monetary Economy and Banking as well as Labor Economics research was chosen to be the Executive Director of International Monetary Fund (IMF) representing 12 countries in the South East Asia (SEA Group) at the beginning of October 2002. Starting from November 1, 2002, she represented 12 member countries of SEA Group at International Monetary Funds. On December 5, 2005, she was appointed to serve as the Minister of Finance. During her devotion as the Minister of Finance, Sri Mulyani Indrawati achieved many achievements, such as stabilizing macroeconomy, maintaining prudent fiscal policy, decreasing cost of loan and managing debt as well as creating trust to investors. Minister of Finance’s reform was led by her very well. Hence, it created many fundamental changes in the Ministry of Finance. On September 18, 2006, Sri Mulyani was crowned as the best Minister of Finance in Asia by the Emerging Markets in the sidelines of World Bank and IMF’s Annual Session in Singapore. She was also elected as the 23rd world’s most influencing woman from Forbes magazine in 2008 and the 2nd most influencing woman in Indonesia from Globe Asia magazine in October 2007. Sri Mulyani was also awarded as the best Minister of Finance for 2006 from the Euromoney and the best Minister of Finance in Asia by the Emerging Market Forum on the same year. In 2008, she served as the Acting Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs after the Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Dr. Boediono was inaugurated as the Governor of Bank Indonesia. Then she was appointed as the Executive Director of World Bank commencing on June 1, 2010. On July 27th, 2016, President Joko Widodo inaugurated Sri Mulyani Indrawati as the Minister of Finance in his Working Cabinet. On February 11th, 2018, the World Government Summit has announced her as the best minister in the world. Close Panel Discussion Panelists (Order of appearance) Danny QUAH (Dean, Li Ka Shing Professor in Economics, Lee Kuan Yew School of Public Policy, National University of Singapore) Bio Danny Quah is Li Ka Shing Professor in Economics and Dean at the Lee Kuan Yew School of Public Policy, NUS. His research on inequality and income mobility characterises the range of experiences across economies to suggest that a single narrative on inequality is unlikely to be correct or helpful. His work on world order takes an economic approach to international systems, studying the supply and demand of world order: what international system do the world’s superpowers wish to provide; what world order does the global community need? Quah is a Commissioner on the Spence-Stiglitz Commission on Global Economic Transformation and on LSE's Global Economic Governance Commission. He serves on the Executive Committee, International Economic Association; the Advisory Board, LSE IDEAS; the Eminent Advisory Council of the UNDP Bureau for Asia-Pacific; and the World Economic Forum's Global Future Council for Geopolitics. He is Vice President at the Economic Society of Singapore. He is the author of “The Global Economy’s Shifting Centre of Gravity”. Close Mely CABALLERO-ANTHONY (Professor of International Relations; Associate Dean (International Engagement); Head of Centre for Non-Traditional Security Studies; President’s Chair in International Relations and Security Studies, S. Rajaratnam School of International Studies, Nanyang Technological University, Singapore) Bio Mely Caballero-Anthony is Professor of International Relations at the S. Rajaratnam School of International Studies (RSIS), Nanyang Technological University, and holds President’s Chair for International Relations and Security Studies. She is also the Head of the RSIS Centre for Non-Traditional Security (NTS) Studies and Associate Dean (External Engagement). Prof. Anthony’s research interests include regionalism and multilateralism in Asia-Pacific, human security and non-traditional security, nuclear security, conflict prevention and global governance. She has published extensively on a broad range of security issues in Asia-Pacific in peer-reviewed journals and international academic press. Her latest books, both single-authored and co-edited, include: Covid -19 and Atrocity Prevention in East Asia (London: Routledge 2022), Nuclear Governance in the Asia-Pacific (London: Routledge, 2022) and Negotiating Governance on Non-Traditional Security in Southeast Asia and Beyond (New York: Columbia University Press, 2018). Prof. Anthony has led a number of global and regional research projects on international security and global governance. She has served as the Secretary-General of the Consortium on Non-Traditional Security Studies in Asia since 2008, and is a member of the international Climate Security Expert Network. She was Vice President at-large of the Governing Council of the International Studies Association (ISA) and was member of the ISA’s Global South Task Force from 2018-2021. From 2013-2017, Prof Anthony was a member of the UN Secretary-General’s Advisory Board on Disarmament Matters (ABDM) and served at its chairperson in 2016. She is also a member of the Asia-Pacific Leadership Network on Nuclear Non-Proliferation (APLN). She was Director of External Relations at the ASEAN Secretariat from 2011-2012. Close Rizal SUKMA (Senior Fellow, the Centre for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS) in Jakarta) Bio Dr. Rizal Sukma is a Senior Fellow at the Centre for Strategic and International Studies, Jakarta. Previously, he was Indonesia’s Ambassador to the United Kingdom, Ireland and the International Maritime Organization (IMO), London, from 2016 to 2020. He joined CSIS in 1990 as a researcher and assumed the role of Executive Director in 2009 until 2015. Dr. Sukma also served as former Chairman of International Relations, Muhammadiyah Central Executive Board (2005-2015). Since receiving a PhD in International Relations from the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE) in 1997, he has worked extensively on such issues as Southeast Asian security, ASEAN, Indonesia’s defense and foreign policy, military reform, Islam and politics, and domestic political changes in Indonesia. Dr Sukma has served as a member of the National Committee on Strategic Defence Review at the Ministry of Defence, and as a member of the National Drafting Committee for the National Defence Bill (2000–2002) and the Armed Forces Bill (2002–2003). He was the first Indonesian to receive the Nakasone Award, in July 2005, and named one 100 Global Thinkers in 2009 by Foreign Policy magazine. He has published three books: Security Operations in Aceh: Goals, Consequences, and Lessons (Washington, DC: East-West Centre, 2004); Islam in Indonesia’s Foreign Policy (London: Routledge, 2003), and Indonesia and China: The Politics of A Troubled Relationship (London: Routledge, 1999). Close URATA Shujiro (Chairman, RIETI) Bio Urata received a BA in economics from Keio University, an MA and a Ph.D in economics from Stanford University. He was Research Associate at the Brookings Institution and an economist at the World Bank before joining Waseda University. His specialized area of research includes international economics and development economics.
